WDSD NEWSLETTER

Every year World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is celebrated around 21 March in order to raise public awareness of Down syndrome. The date was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome. In this newsletter you will find some of the activities organized by our members and supporting associations. Enjoy it!

Virtual flashmob for celebrating WDSD

To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, a dance challenge imagined by the French association "Tombé du Nid" will take place. A whole community of families and associations from 19 different countries are preparing together a choreography to create a virtual flashmob under the label EUfortrisomy21. The Institute and the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation are pleased to join this initiative

The choreography was imagined by a choreographer who has worked with people with DS, from the last single of Kimberose: "Back on my feet".

The objective of this challenge is that the social networks be filled with people reproducing the choreography, with the hashtag #EUForTrisomy21 #Challenge #downsyndrome

Global Down Syndrome Forum

In anticipation of World Down Syndrome Day, we look forward to hosting the first edition of the 2021 Global Down Syndrome Forum. The event will feature presentations from global thought leaders and experts on the science and care of Down syndrome and Down syndrome-related Alzheimer’s disease. The increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease is thought to have a genetic cause and results in an earlier occurrence of symptoms in nearly all people living with Down syndrome

WDSD goes online with our initiative "Teile Gutes 21" ("Sharing good 21")

People with Down Syndrome have so much to give. And they love to celebrate.

And we want to celebrate WDSD 2021, even though not everyone may feel like celebrating at the moment.

This year we want to „share good“  to cheer up, encourage, touch and give hope to the world.

What is the good that can be shared?

A song, a video message, a photo or a saying, a short story, a photo-stretch … an info about how you celebrate March 21st, what you have planned or prepared.

The campaign lives from the diversity of ideas and the people who participate: People with and without Down Syndrome, parents, siblings, relatives and friends, groups and DS initiatives, educators, therapists, pedagogues and so on and so forth.

We publish the contributions on www.teile-gutes21.de and on Instragram and Facebook #TeileGutes21.

We are looking forward to every idea and hope to spread a smile that connects people with and without Down Syndrome in this challenging time.
